Agents as Bridges to Legacy and Classic Systems

I am exploring the interfaces between the familiar computing world and the emerging world of AI agents. My current research question: what happens when you give agents access to legacy and classic systems — a Commodore 64, a VAX machine, a wiki, a family archive? Can an agent serve as a natural, conversational bridge to these older systems — making them accessible and useful again through plain English text or voice? I am investigating whether the agent paradigm is a genuinely good interface for interacting with systems that were never designed for it, and what new possibilities that opens up.
